On a quest to find the best Quest!

I decided to try out Quest bars this week! James has been telling me these were the BEST protein bars on the market. I have been trying out different bars and have been happy with Zone but then started making my own protein snack and I am in LOVE with it! One little problem is that this mix really adds to my calorie count a bit more then I'd like and I have been consistently running over where I'd like to be on calories since I started eating this. (It contains rolled oats, flax seed, peanut butter, honey and protein powder mixed together and rolled into a bar (Yum!!).)

In an effort to save some calories I am shelving my snack and in search of a new protein bar. I typically will have two protein snacks a day, one mid morning and one mid afternoon. I enjoy my protein smoothie for my mid morning snack and just need to figure out the afternoons!

Quest bars are low in carbs and high in protein. I picked up a two weeks supply at my local GNC.

So far I have tried most of them and they are all delicious! My least favorite would be the coconut but only because I am in general not a huge coconut lover. Cookies and Cream might be my very favorite! They are also very filling and make the perfect late afternoon snack! I can't wait to try out the rest!

This Weekend's VIP - Yurbuds Review

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
~Irish Blessing

Spring, St. Patrick's Day

I can't believe I have yet to share the details of one of my very favorite Christmas presents! My mother bought me the pink Yurbuds from my wish list for Christmas and they are amazing!

Inspire for Women

Prior to using the Yurbuds I was using the earphones that came with the iPhone. They are also great, I had no real complaints about them but I wanted to try the Yurbuds simply because they came highly recommended.

I am in love with them! What a huge difference! I never realized actually how uncomfortable the iPhone earbuds were before now. They actually would make my ears a bit sore if I wore them longer than thirty minutes. The Yurbuds however are specially designed by athletes for athletes! The FlexSoft™ and TwistLock™ technologies ensure that they are comfortable and don't fall out!

Inspire for Women

My Yurbuds are the Inspire for Women. They cost about $30.00. They are designed specifically for smaller ears and they are also designed to allow for ambient noise. This is especially important for me as a runner. I need to have my music up, fast beat and heavy base, to keep me motivated and moving, but I also need to be able to hear cars coming up beside me or behind me as well as people, I like being able to hear my surroundings while enjoying my tunes!

Inspire for Women

I love the long cord and the soft feel too! I haven't gone for a run without them since Christmas!! I highly recommend Yurbuds! Once you give them a try you will never feel the same about earphones/earbuds ever again!

High Five For Friday

Why yes, yes it is snowing... AGAIN... Spring, where in the world are you??

We are ready for warmer weather. It has, however, been another wonderful week!

1. We had such a fun time cake tasting! Our wedding date is getting closer and closer and we are checking things off our list! we picked our flavors and discussed the design of our cake. We are super excited!!

2. After our cake testing we enjoyed a yummy southern lunch at 12 Bones in Asheville, NC. Delish!

3. We are in full wedding planning mode! We are having fun with it though, that has been the greatest benefit of a long engagement. We have really been able to enjoy simply being engaged and now we can enjoy wedding planning!

4. We are also in full home reno mode! It's so much fun to watch our ideas take shape and come to fruition.

5. We had a beautiful Ash Wednesday service this week. A reminder of our mortality as we prepare for Easter.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, if you have snow like us here are some suggestions of things to do!

Storyteller's Rock, Boone Bowl, Grandfather Mountain

One of our very favorite places to camp is at Storyteller's Rock. We spend a lot of time camping and traipsing all across the back side of Grandfather Mountain. Storyteller's Rock is a perfect spot nestled deep in the wilderness to connect with nature and just be.

To access the trail leading to Storyteller's Rock we parked in the Boone Fork Parking Area at mile 299.9 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The entire hike in is about 2 miles one way. You will pick up the Nuwati Trail a little way in and follow this trail, an old logging road, about 1.2 miles from the trial head the rest of the way up to Storyteller's Rock. Follow the blue blazes. In the Cherokee language Nuwati mean medicine. As you travel this trial you will feel you spirit healed for sure!

You will need to pick up a permit at the Trail Head whether you are camping or hiking.

There are so many beautiful creek crossing along the trail.

Don't be startled if you hear some rustling in the woods nearby... It's likely just a deer but just in case be prepared for bears too! You are in Bear Country!

Story Teller's Rock

Storyteller's Rock campsite is nestled at the base of a rock outcropping and has a fire ring and an elevated tent pad. Perfect for a night out ;)

There are also plenty of water sources on the way up and nearby.

After the hike in and the site set up the sun had set and we were ready to relax by the fire!

The night was long and WINDDDDDDDYYYYY.... We laid awake listening to the wind swirl and howl through the Boone Bowl and all at once we were terrified hearing a great crack and crash. Fortunately this tree did not come crashing down on our tent!! It was close though! Yikes!

In the morning we climbed up to the top of the rock, breathed in the freshest air, took in the amazing views of the Boone Bowl, enjoyed a morning cup of coffee with breakfast and sat quietly to listen to the stories that Grandfather Mountain would tell.

This Weekend's VIP - Dr. Scholl's® Tri-Comfort® Orthotics Review

I am quickly approaching one year of running! Time flies when you are having fun! On my running journey I have been learning how my body works and how my body responds to running more and more each day. I have learned that proper shoes, proper fitstretching and rolling, Zensah Compressing Sleeves and KT Tape are life savers!! In addition Dr. Scholl's® Tri-Comfort® Orthotics have been essential to my running success!

During my first few months of running I began experiencing pain and issues in my lower legs and feet. I made adjustments to my running routine, added a few items to my running gear must haves and made sure I was properly stretching. All things combined began to produce improvements in the way I felt. A friend of mine also suggested orthotics and when shopping at my local super market one day I ran across these. I decided to pick these up and give them a try for $6.00 before investing more on a pair at a specialty running store for $40-$60. I wasn't quite sure if I'd be able to run with them or not.

Turns out these are great! I took out the sock liner from my Brooks and inserted these in their place and I have been running with them ever since! I am actually probably due for a new pair (can you tell...). The recommendation from the manufacturer is to get a new pair every 6 months and I just started thinking maybe it's time. I have noticed a slight decrease in the support previously provided. I have probably had these about eight months now.

I will probably try out the Superfeet insoles next but I would absolutely wear these again and if I find I don't like Superfeet I will come back to these! I just enjoy trying new things and want to give Superfeet a try! I suggest that if you are not sure how/if and insert/insole will work for you try out the Dr. Scholl's® Tri-Comfort® Orthotics. This is such an inexpensive option and in my opinion works perfectly!
